Drain Cleaning

How Do Professional Plumbers Clean Out Clogged Drains?

Clogged toilets, slow kitchen sink drains, and blocked bathtub drains can be caused by a variety of reasons. Food, hair, bathroom tissue, and even items that should never be placed in a drain can contribute to a massive clog within the actual sewer line. As a homeowner in the Carmel area, you’ve probably tried all the common household solutions – plungers, chemical drain cleaners, hot water, and more. When you have a clogged drain that refuses to budge, it’s time to call in the experts. Curt & Jerry Sewer Service uses the three methods below to take care of those nasty, stubborn clogs.

1. Manual Drain Snakes

You may have used one of these tools in the past to try and free that blocked drain. Also known as a plumber’s snake, this manual tool consists of a small auger that is rotated as it’s pushed down the drain and through the clog. As it moves through the plumbing system, it removes whatever materials are causing the slow drain. Once removed, the drain is free and clear, and will work as it should.

2. Motorized Drain Snake

When the manual snake doesn’t do the job, a motorized drain snake is the next best solution. This snake is not used inside your home but rather is placed into a sewer cleanout line on the outside of your property. These valuable tools can extend up to 150 feet within the sewer line, making them an effective remedy for major clogs further down the sewer system.

3. High-Pressure Water Jetting

High-pressure water jetting is the most powerful way to remove stubborn clogs deep within your sewer line. When the above two solutions fail, high-pressure water jetting becomes the go-to fix. With hydro-jetting, high-pressure water is forced through the entire sewer system. This not only unblocks whatever is causing the initial problem but also clears away any remaining residue stuck to the sides of the sewer pipes.
